  • What is the Project 100?

100 Marketers. 400 words each. 1 Collaborative Book on “Project 100: Marketing in the Social Media Era”. I read an interesting blog on The Age of Conversation, a collaborative book writing effort where 100 marketers each contribute one page to the book or marketing support to help get the word out. They are already on their second book, The Age of Conversation 2. I think this is a fantastic idea, and it got me thinking: Could I possibly co-ordinate a similar project for marketers? Well, why not give it a try… So here is my challenge: Get 100 marketers who are leaders in the Social Media/ Non-Trad Marketing. The Topic/ Theme: “Marketing in the Social Media Era. Building Dynamic Consumer Relationships.” There is a 400 words Limit per author. Each author can include diagrams, images etc. I will publish the book on www.blurb.com in a softcover version - so you can order copies in a format that works best for you. All profits go to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I am not doing this for the money. I am doing it because I think its cool, I am interested in what marketing leaders are thinking and I believe in Susan G. Komen. Please send me a note via twitter or leave a comment or email me if you want to be a part of this project where 100 Marketing Leaders share their views on now to build brands consumers love.

  1. It’s a bit naughty but I’d print off a load of bookmarks promoting the book, with a slogan such as “Don’t read this, read ‘this’… get with the times! with details about Connect!

Then go round loads of Waterstones, WHSmith’s etc and slip them inside all the boring old-school marketing books. So when people go to pick up a stuffy old out-of-date book on marketing they’ll be prompted to pick something far better, and for a more noble cause!

  2. Well, first, I’d find as many cancer-related blogs as possible and ask their owners if they would put a link or badge on their site to order, and also to blog and tweet (if they have a Twitter account) about it.

Maybe I’d use Magpie (http://be-a-magpie.com/) – how cool would that be? And since it’s a good cause, I don’t think people would mind so much seeing it tweeted. Make sure a hashtag is attached so it can create some buzz.

That’s about all I can think of right now. May come back with some other ideas if they hit me.

  3. Plenty of organizations support the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I’d obtain a list, (corporate sponsors are listed right on the Susan Komen website), then hit up the websites for each of those organizations and see if they’ll post an ad and press release promoting the book. Perhaps they’ll also include a mention in their next mailing or on Twitter.

  4. Contact Peter Shankman at HARO (Help a Reporter Out). He has a mailing list of PR people and journalists that is over 50,000 and growing daily. He is a big social networker himself. I bet he would include a mention in his daily newsletter. I’ve seen him promote other charities.

You would get visibility to a group that is definitely plugged into social media. Plus you might get some reporters to offer to do a story about the book project.

If you need Peter’s contact info., just let me know.
